Walker Methodist Breaks Ground on Expansion in Anoka

Scott Riddle | Sep 10, 2015

As you may know, this year we’re celebrating our 70 year anniversary. During these 70 years, we’ve had the pleasure of providing lifestyle, housing, and healthcare services for older adults in the Twin Cities and Metropolitan areas. As the years pass, many new beginnings and memories are made and this year is no different. With our Miracle of Music campaign, new Employee Pay it Forward Program, and partnership with Struthers Parkinson’s Center, we have to say that this year is one year we will never forget. We’re adding to this year’s list of excitement by breaking ground on an expansion of our Anoka community.

On August 5, 2015, we will be breaking ground on our new Walker Methodist Plaza Gardens community in downtown Anoka. The new Plaza Gardens community will be across the street from the current Walker Methodist Plaza community and will feature a skyway connecting the two buildings. We will be holding a ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the new addition and kickoff to the project on Wednesday, August 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 131 Monroe Street between First and Second Avenues. The event is open to the public and will feature prominent individuals of Walker Methodist and the Anoka community including Carl Youngquist, Chairman Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Scott Riddle, CEO and President of Walker Methodist, and Gaylen Harms, chair of the Walker Methodist board.

With 10 communities already in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area that are reaching capacity, this expansion comes at the perfect time. Walker Garden Plaza will feature upgraded community spaces, dining facilities, and activity areas and will include 26 memory care suites, 42 assisted-living suites, and 5 enhanced care suites for aging adults. In addition to impacting the senior living community in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, the expansion will also bring 75 new jobs to the Anoka area.

The Plaza Garden project is estimated to be complete in September 2016, and we are excited to break ground and continue to grow and expand in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
